Edmonton Wedding Photography | Andrew & Amber’s Timeless Shoot

Fort Edmonton Wedding Photography

Last month we did an Edmonton wedding photography shoot to celebrate Lachlan’s cousin’s marriage. The results are these beautiful photos and lots of touching moments between the bride and groom.

There’s perhaps nothing more heartwarming than a beaming groom, overcome with joy as he first sees his bride. On a perfectly sunny day in June, Andrew lowered his eyes as Amber walked down the path to meet him. When he finally looked up and their gaze met, a smile spread across his face as tears welled in his eyes. He was about to marry his best friend, and nothing could have made him happier.

The couple chose historic Fort Edmonton for their formal wedding photographs. The setting is absolutely charming with gorgeous, clean backdrops of 19th century buildings. We were lucky to have ample shade and lots of soft light to work with. Andrew was still beaming ear to ear, hamming it up in front of the old fashioned hardware store. Amber’s femininity was accentuated in her dress, shoes, and the gorgeous bouquets she lovingly made by hand.

The handmade boutonnieres and details on the wedding party all added to the charm, and the flower girl (also Lachlan’s niece!) stole the show with her cherub-like curls and the sweet smile of a girl in her very first wedding party.

With that energy to work with we used the playful, historic backdrop to add a classic quality to the wedding shoot and balanced it with contemporary notes. The bouquets added a pop of colour to the otherwise muted tones. Amber clearly matched Andrew’s enthusiasm, but had a more demure, feminine quality that made her seem almost out of an old hollywood film. It made the setting seem even more fitting.

Shooting in this area feels almost like being on a movie set. It’s really dreamy, but requires a little thought. The stores are still active with staff filling the role of both curator and shopkeep, complete with historic costumes. To keep the couple front and centre we scouted areas with less foot traffic so the focus would remain on them. Choosing a historic backdrop for your wedding photos is a charming idea, and we were so lucky to do this Edmonton wedding photography shoot to capture Andrew and Amber’s gorgeous wedding.
