Our Vanier Park Engagement Session with Jennifer & JP

It was the perfect evening for a Vanier Park engagement session. There was a warm breeze coming off the ocean and the sun was slowly setting, casting a glow over Vancouver. We had just spent a full afternoon with Jennifer and Jason chatting about their wedding plans, and photographing them around the city.

A little re-creation of Jason’s parent’s wedding photo, taken at the same spot some 40 years later.

Our first stop was Burnaby’s Central Park, a place important to Jason; It was across the street from where his parent’s were married, the park where they had one of their most iconic wedding photographs taken, and a place where he spent much of his youth. (It also has a cute pitch n’ put where we took a couple snaps!)

After caught in rush hour to heading downtown we finally hit Kitz for a brief fuel-up at 49th Parallel Coffee and grabbed a couple Lucky’s doughnuts too. We wanted to catch the sunset, get some photographs with the Burrard St. bridge in the background and a few with the ocean, so a Vanier Park engagement session was the perfect answer.

Here’s a little tale about how these two lovelies got together:

“How We Met” as told by Jennifer

When I started working at Joe Fortes in 2010, the Keg across the street was the ideal post-(and sometimes pre-) shift hangout for the staff. Jason was everyone’s favorite bartender. He was funny and loud and always welcoming, but mostly people loved him because he gave them booze. He picked up a second job working at Joe’s shortly after I started.

From day one he could make me laugh and our co-worker/patron/bartender relationship developed into friendship. We would often go out with other staff and occasionally we would end up at the Roxy. After one such night he made his first effort to romance me. He walked me home (what a gentleman) and leaned in for a kiss… I was shocked and foolishly shunned his advance.

It would be almost a year until he tried again. A bunch of us were gathered at the Keg laughing and chatting, drinking our preferred Keg beverage: triple anything. This is when Jason made his big move. “Hey wanna go outside and make out?” Is what his text message read…Amazingly I thought it was cute and 5 years later I am so happy I replied “OK!”
